The Sunshine Law

May 23, 2008 / by rallscogadfly

The Sunshine Law is a good thing.  I think everyone would agree to that.  It keeps public officials "honest" to a degree and prevents a lot of mischevious behavior and goings on.

OK.  DNR is looking a different solutions to the sewer modification for the city.  They may want to speak to city officials a couple of times a week working up solutions to the problems.  Easily solved:  Delegate one or two officials to work with DNR on the problem, get their answers and ask your questions.  Then, report to the city council at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

There would have been no quorom involved in any decision making process, because there really wasn't a decision to be made.  You were gathering information to make a report.  When all of this gathering process were completed and then discussed at a city council meeting, DNR could be invited to the next meeting to answer any questions or provide additional detail.

Does that sound logical?  No laws broken.  Everyone happy.

Whatever happens, I suggest the city officials get back on track with the editor of the local newspaper.  He is only doing his job.  He should not be shut out of any meeting.  You do not need bad publicity.

I am afraid were I in his shoes and you pissed me off, I would go out of my way to screw over you.  Apologize!  Life's too short!

That sounds like a really good idea.  I think I'll pass it on.  It would make things so much easier on the city council.  Lets wait and see what the next city council meeting brings.
